The Klaxons

The Klaxons fell off the grid for a few years, but they are back with a new album titled Love Frequency, as well as a tour starting in Norwich, and ending in Germany. I was able to photograph their first gig in Norwich. I hadn’t heard of them before, but decided to photograph them based on their energetic presence on stage. Knowing that this was their first gig in a few years, I didn’t expect The Waterfront to be as packed as it was.

The support group were a duo called the Thumpers. I had never listened to their music before, but I thoroughly enjoyed their set! They projected a calm, yet atmospheric vibe that the audience soaked up.

I focused on photographing the band, as well as the audience. I wanted to get some close ups of the musicians, as well as focusing on individuals within the crowd. I also wanted to capture the lighting that is used throughout the set in order to create a harmonious effect.

Brit Floyd

Brit Floyd was an absolutely mind blowing experience. This concert was very different to the concerts that I usually attend/photograph. Knowing some information as to how Pink Floyd concert usually pan out (thank you Dad!), I was very much excited to photograph the British Tribute band, Brit Floyd.

The concert was packed FULL of colourful strobe lights and weird home-made videos. There were various occasions were I found myself starring at the band, rather than taking photos!
I wanted to concentrate on photographing each individual section of the band, there were more than 7 or 8 band members on stage; therefore I wanted to focus on photographing them more as individuals, rather than as a whole.

I would absolutely see this tribute band again, although they can not compare with the original Pink Floyd (these are the words of my father, I could only wish to see the original members perform!), they are close to the real thing as you can get.

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls

After retrieving my photo pass I walked to the side of the stage at the UEA and waited for Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls’ support act to come on. When attending any concert, the support act is usually similar to the main act. Not this time. As Koo Koo Kanga Roo entered the stage, there were some shocked and confused audience members. The American duo bounced around the stage, as well as off it! Their songs were both random, and energetic; Koo Koo Kanga Roo definitely got the audience moving!

The audience were deafening when Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls came onto the stage. Try This at Home and If Ever I Stray got the audience moving.

Although I could only photograph the first three songs, I stayed for the rest of the gig and was very impressed by Frank’s stage presence, as well as his musical performance.

I would definitely recommend attending a Frank Turner gig, you will not be disappointed!
